How many of you had pets when you were younger that ended up suffering from ignorant husbandry, rehomed, dead before their days, or in the care of your parents. You never acquired any of those animals with those intentions, but it happened. How many pleaded for a dog or cat and dumped it with your parents or someone else when you went to college? How many of you are here pushing on this guy because you now see how easily you could have prevented all of those things. He's on the forums getting a whole lot more husbandry info than I ever had when I was that age. I'm not saying to applaud, but know when it's appropriate to keep pushing on someone and when you need to let them learn their own lessons, even at the expense of some animals. People get so cranky about how pet stores care for animals and pass that on to the buyers. Welcome to the pet trade. I'm probably going to upset some people saying that, but take a hard look at yourselves and tell me you were A+ all mighty animal parent from birth.

If only people would think about finances and enclosures before having kids...

I'm just playing devils advocate here - I'm not actually evil or bitter. This thread should have died before it begun, though. He's young - he knows everything - you did too. Lay off and be happy that he's on the forums to soak in some knowledge second hand so he can deploy it when he's ready.

Being young is no excuse for his behavior at this point. Sure, at first, being young and stupid is a great excuse. But 10 threads and hundreds of posts later, young doesn't carry much weight anymore.

I will put my 2 cents here as a member again before this thread gets locked or moved because we all know it is bound to happen.

To Eric, when you come on a forum and criticize those horrible newbies mistreating their animals expect that you will be called out yourself when people find out that you are one of those newbie yourself. You are young and have a lot to learn, one of the thing you have to learn is also to let go and walk away rather then stir the pot (already said that but obviously you chose to ignore it). This thread was unnecessary and obviously is not helping your reputation, stirring the pot has never help anyone. My advice, take a break, assess your actions and come back when you are willing to listen and lose the attitude.

Now to the others, pointing out mistakes in an effort to help someone is great, however you all know what they say “you can lead a horse to the water…”. In other words if your attempts to point someone in the right direction fail or if you cannot get through because the person is resisting, you too need to learn to walk away too, better yet if you are really annoyed use the IGNORE feature.

Threads like this, or turning every thread that the OP makes into the drama llama does not accomplish anything. Sometime ignoring someone is a much better option than trying to have the last word every single time.

While reading through this forum post was entertaining... I am also saddened. I am new to this forum but not to the snake world and it is dis concerning to see that as a community we attack each other. We as people should see that some people just want attention whether negative or positive. It is just horrible. I know I have gone to an expo not expecting to pick up another snake but I see one the was "A GREAT DEAL" or wow it just "HAD TO HAVE IT" and I did not have a proper enclosure until the next day. Does that make me a horrible snake owner? NO! I have also used half logs in all of my enclosures on the "HOT" side and my snakes have never minded it and they hardly ever miss a meal. And I also do not think they care if their enclosures match it seems to be more of a human aesthetic problem then a snakes. I just feel like instead of feeding into the negative we should build up the "new" or "young" snake owner. Instead of saying improper maybe say "I see your doing it like X maybe try Y". Then we would not be faced with a 9 page post full of rudeness from both ends. Everyone here has made husbandry mistakes at one point whether small or catastrophic, and we should not act " Holier than thou". That is just my opinion.

You just keep putting a target on your back. You've apologized for your bad start here and were on your way to being "forgotten" (meaning the negative pushed to the back by being a positive member on here). Just lay low and don't keep causing more drama. Some of your threads left a bad taste in others mouths and keeping up the drama just keeps refreshing it. You say you're not here to make buddies, but if you ever plan on breeding, your reputation is going to greatly effect your sales. I try to watch what I say and be a positive, active member on here for that very reason. I'm here to learn, "meet" people, and establish myself in the community. I think that's what the forum is all about.

When I read something online that upsets that is directed at me I read it a few times then wait a while. Later when I've processed it and cooled off I make my reply with a level head. That's one good thing about online contact is you have that opportunity to take your time to choose your reaction and words.

Please, for the love of god, do yourself a favor and change your signature. It DOES make you look like a whiny little kid. With that said, it's awesome you got your new enclosure, and it's awesome that you are taking advice, and putting your animals health and well being first. We all started off somewhere and made mistakes, you're right - and I am glad you are looking at people's advice, and ways to improve. However the way you go about approaching topics get's under people's skin and starts the ball rolling for threads like these.

2) We all need to step back and take a look at our attitudes. This lynching has gone on long enough, no good is coming from it. WE ALL NEED AN ATTITUDE ADJUSTMENT, not just B.O.S.
