Not taking any chances yet, but I think I fixed a mite issue.

Alright so the other day I picked up 3 BPs from the 2013 CRBE. I noticed the Mojave (male) I bought was after checking, seemed clean at the expo so I bought it however when I got home I saw 3 black mites on him (keep in mind I've never seen a mite before on a snake so wasnt sure what to look for).

So of course where did I go? Right here and found some guides on getting NIX and diluting it with water... 5 days later and constant checking, I see 0 mites on the paper towel as well as the snake however with that said he is staying in the other room for another 3-6 weeks. I want to wait until it sheds personally but thats me.

Now, could it be that it was just a light infestation and I have likely killed all the mites? All of my other snakes are in good health and I have checked over and over and over again and they don't have any that I can see. I am still a little worried (and rightfully so with 6 BPs).

What has been your experience(s) with mites on your BPs in the past? Are you dealing with it now?

Not taking any chances yet, but I think I fixed a mite issue.

My first experience with mites was a tough little battle because she had a bunch on her and I had to treat for like a week or two to get rid of them all. But my second mite encounter was 5 years later and was a very mild case. She only had a couple on her and I went through and gently rubbed them off. The mites I usually see are always bright red when they are on the snakes body so they are easy to spot under the scales. So after picking of about 7 or 8 little red mites I cleaned everything in the tank and let everything soak in bleach water for 30 minutes to an hour, filled the tank up the brim with water. Then dumped it all out outside and rinsed it really really good. With Eva I let her soak for a bit in some prevent a mite and then soaked her in some liquid iodine solution diluted with water as an antiseptic to treat the bites she had gotten. And after that one day of intense cleaning I haven't seen another mite. Successfully exterminated in a day

    I've had mites one time.

I bought a snake at a show and noticed 5-6 mites on the animal. I promptly treated her QT tub with Provent a Mite and gave her a soak in some luke warm water to drown the mites on her body.

I never saw a mite in my house ever again.

    good to hear guys.

I will be treating the paper towel and surroundings of the QT Mojave male I got that had the mites for the next couple weeks, I am not seeing any more tiny black or full grown mites at all any more either so hopefully that was it and I hope to god my other snakes are all well and good still as I still havent seen mites on any of my other BPs or on the rack itself.

my mite battles have all lasted several weeks .. biokill or whatever else you are using to kill mites unfortunatelly doesn't kill the eggs and those take quite some time to hatch .. make sure you keep checking the snake for atleast 2 weeks
but on the other hand if you haven't battled mites you are not a true reptile keeper! so welcome to the club

    Uhhhh, what?
Provent-a-Mite is NOT for use directly on your snake. It says so right on the can.
You're not supposed to even put your snake back in its enclosure until the PAM is 100% dry & doesn't smell of chemicals.

Oh crap I'm sorry! I didn't mean to say provent a mite. I meant that I let her soak in the Natural Chemistry Reptile Spray that you do actually apply directly to the snake. I totally forgot the name of the stuff and mixed it up with the provent a mite since they both provent mites. I've only had mites twice in 6 years so I don't have all the mite product names memorized lol. They all provent mites, but anyway sorry for the mix up! Ill have to be more careful when I comment things so people don't think I'm a terrible owner lol.

OP you said you have six BP's, three are recent acquisitions from the expo. Hopefully all 3 new arrivals are QT'ed well away from each other and the 3 that you already had for at least 60 days (some folks do a 90 day QT), I had two new ones from the same seller pop up with an RI right at 45 days, GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR.

Lol it happens. I got nervous for your snakes for a min lol
And yeah, I do 90 day quarantines with all my new babies. If a health issue pops up, I extend the time.
