Aspen bedding ?
I use aspen bedding for all my ball pythons and I have read that it can attach to a males hemipenes in the course of breeding and cause an infection if it is drawn back inside with them. My question is to the people who use any type of chip substrate. Do you switch to paper substrate while pairing your BP or do you continue to use your normal substrate? If you continue using your normal have you ever had any problems with doing so? This is the first year that I will have more than 1 female up to breeding size and this question has been weighing on my mind as I get ready for the upcoming season.

I use Aspen mixed with spigot moss throughout the year. At breeding season I switch the females to coco-husk.

I breed on newspaper personally. I'm not sure how common it is for that to happen, but I'd rather not find out personally. They breed/live just fine on paper so there's no reason I need to change what I've been doing for 5 years.

That is kinda what I was thinking too. The main reason for my question is because I have 1 female that is so picky and stubborn that she will refuse to eat if she is not on aspen bedding. I switched to newspaper for awhile a few months ago and she absolutely refused to eat for months. As soon as I put her back on aspen she started eating the next day. Gotta love the hard headed ones.

Nice to see that I'm not the only one who keeps their mind in the gutter.
