It says the VE-100 is not proportional, what's that mean? And is it a bad thing? I know the VE-200 would be the better option, but like I said now, funds are incredibly limited.

That means that it basically turns off at a certain temp then back on at another temp(lower) to keep near the temp you have it set for. This is the reason I don't really like mine.

So basically, if I have it set to 85. It will turn off at 85, and then back on when the probe gets cooler?

No, it'll turn off at 87, then back on at 83.

Vivarium has a cheaper version, an on off one. I would also recommend a Rancho.
