    all female clutch?!

So our first clutch just hatched out about 4 days ago. My hubby decided to try to pop them today.. He's kind of new to popping, (but he's very careful about it.) He thinks all 7 are females. I know it's possible, but how likely is it to get an all female clutch? We are definitely going to try again in a week or so... but i just wanted some opinions/advice.

I'd learn how to probe so you can double check.

I can't pop if my life depended on it, so I rely completely on probing. There is little room for error if you know how to probe correctly.

It is possible that they are all females, however I think it is more likely that they are mis-sexed.

    Re: all female clutch?!

Happens not often but it does I had both, all male clutches and all female clutches over the years.

Just make sure to double check but it is possible.

It is possible but it's more likely that he is not applying the correct amount of pressure. I would wait until they have their first sheds and try again, just in case.

popping seems very easy when watching those youtube videos, however it's everything but easy .. it probably took me about 100 tries on different snakes to get the technique and ammount of pressure right - before that they all seemed like females to me too, because I wasn't able to pop anything out .. but now it's the easiest thing in the world to get a hemipene out however I still double or tripple check when I think I have a female

yea popping is easy when u get it down .. the videos on u tube make seem real easy but u dont know how much pressure to use so i got scared of hurting but i would just keep trying on my boy i would try like 3 or 4 times then leave him alone for hours and try again then after a while i got it and then as i started getting more snake and trying it got easier .. n to let u know its a lot easier when there hatchlings then when they get bigger u dont have to use so much pressure ..

From a numbers perspective, the chance of a same sex clutch from 7 hatchlings is less than 1% (0.78125% --> assuming there is a 50% chance of either sex). Better odds than playing the lottery, but still not very likely.

I agree that he may not be popping correctly, but it is possible. My last clutch of pieds was ALL female. I've sexed them about a half dozen times double checking. I wish I knew what caused it.
