    Adult male cage size

Could an adult male easily live in a 2x2x1 cage? Or does length matter more than width? I know lots of people keep there adults in 41qt tubs. The tubs are longer and more narrow. However, they have nearly the same amount if floor space. What is everyone's thoughts? I'm thinking of ordering a boaphile 120d. My male is currently a young guy... I just figured he could easily live in a 2x2 and still be comfortable as an adult.

Well, it depends how big he gets. The real answer is "probably"

That's true. I will probably have an expandable end put in it.

I wouldn't use something that small. Only being one foot wide seems a little small to me for a full grown male. I'd at lease go with a 32 Qt size tub (or an equivalent size). I think the 32 qt tubs are 16" wide and 23" long. All of my males are in 41 qt tubs.

Is 12 inches wide on the low end of comfortable for an average adult? My glass enclosure is 36L x 12W x 18H, and it seems too small to me, but I have never had any BP experience. I've read many, many, opinions that my size is appropriate for an "average" adult BP. It sure doesn't look big when he's stretched out in it. Don't they NEED room to exercise? If I buy a wider aquarium, I'll have to create a whole new piece of furniture for it (which isn't out of the question). Longer would be easier to accommodate than wider.

I'm not sure of my snake's current weight/length/age, but I also don't think it is full grown. He's a rescue we got in Dec 2012 at about 870 grams. When do they stop growing? Last time we weighed him in June he was 1,340 grams.

I know my BP's current length is probably crucial information for this discussion, but because it is my kid's, and I AM AFRAID TO TOUCH IT, and the kid is out of town I can't provide it. I've read many hundreds of pages on BPs, and I know it can't hurt me. I get bite wounds all the time by my crazy 100 pound guard dog, and it doesn't phase me. (She doesn't TRY to take a hunk of flesh or I would be hurting.) I absolutely believe that whatever the BP can do if it bites me (and it has never bit or hissed) will be nothing compared to what the dog or my clawed cat dish out. But I'm an irrational old woman, and I don't want to touch the snake.

On the other hand, if the house starts on fire, I'll suck it up and grab the snake and toss it into a pillowcase to save it. But I'll be thinking and saying ICK the whole time.

This cage is 23.5" long, 24" deep front to back and only 10" tall.

Ps. Belle, you're 12" x 36" tank is just fine!

The enclosure is not 1' wide. LxWxH= 24" x 24"x 10". If multiply the LxW you are looking at 576 square inches for the floor space in the boaphile.

    A 41 qt tub is 34 1/2" x 16 1/2" x 5 5/8". There for the floor space in a 41qt tub is 569.25 square inches.

The boaphile has more actual floor space. I'm just wondering if the longer length of the tub is more important. Or is the overall floor space more important?

No problem! I've made a similar mistake on the Morelia Virdis forums. I'm a green tree python guy personally. I'm getting my gf her dream ball python as an engagement gift... The wedding ring will be under the hide when she picks it up. Her favorite morph is the blue eye lucys.
