Is 12 inches wide on the low end of comfortable for an average adult? My glass enclosure is 36L x 12W x 18H, and it seems too small to me, but I have never had any BP experience. I've read many, many, opinions that my size is appropriate for an "average" adult BP. It sure doesn't look big when he's stretched out in it. Don't they NEED room to exercise? If I buy a wider aquarium, I'll have to create a whole new piece of furniture for it (which isn't out of the question). Longer would be easier to accommodate than wider.
I'm not sure of my snake's current weight/length/age, but I also don't think it is full grown. He's a rescue we got in Dec 2012 at about 870 grams. When do they stop growing? Last time we weighed him in June he was 1,340 grams.
I know my BP's current length is probably crucial information for this discussion, but because it is my kid's, and I AM AFRAID TO TOUCH IT, and the kid is out of town I can't provide it. I've read many hundreds of pages on BPs, and I know it can't hurt me. I get bite wounds all the time by my crazy 100 pound guard dog, and it doesn't phase me. (She doesn't TRY to take a hunk of flesh or I would be hurting.) I absolutely believe that whatever the BP can do if it bites me (and it has never bit or hissed) will be nothing compared to what the dog or my clawed cat dish out. But I'm an irrational old woman, and I don't want to touch the snake.
On the other hand, if the house starts on fire, I'll suck it up and grab the snake and toss it into a pillowcase to save it. But I'll be thinking and saying ICK the whole time.
