Some one didn't listen to there grandfather or father while growing up. You can't win man, they're always right and don't ever try to argue because you're always wrong. Good luck!

Reading this thread made me both sad--dang man, it sucks to have to kind of underhandedly act to get what you want in terms of your hobbies because of your SO's lack of enthusiasm--and happy because model horses! I used to be very involved in that hobby!

As far as the OP's situation..hmm. It's not really my place to comment on it, but since it's out there in a post, I'll respond. It's just kind of sad to me, really. My boyfriend is very supportive of everything I choose to do. I grow orchids (and am experimenting with carnivorous plants) and now I'm getting into BPs. We're both passionately into our sport of powerlifting, but he's not really passionate about orchids and I'm not really passionate about video games (actually, I kind of REALLY dislike them). That said, I do NOT object to however much money he wants to sink into them, which he does responsibly. And I actually make an effort to ask about his gaming, whether or not he likes the game he's currently playing, etc. It has always seemed to me that if you love someone you should support what they love, because it feeds them, it keeps them happy. I want NOTHING more than for my boyfriend to be happy. I do whatever I can to make him happy, and seeing him pleased and take pleasure from x or y hobby makes me infinitely happy. You get back from the support you give, in other words.

Very well said! And yeah at some point when I actually have time (two jobs, school, doing art for a game, etc) I'd like to learn how to customize model horses. I've seen some fantastically detailed ones and would love to be able to do that too.

Yeah my boyfriend and I have very different hobbies. I don't get excited over his collecting, bowling, soccer, fishing, etc. But I get excited for his happiness, enjoyment, and when he gets excited. He does the same for me. Listens to endless horse, snake, and art talk and just enjoys that I'm happy, even if we don't enjoy the actual hobbies the other one does. I actually got him into fishkeeping and motorcycles so we share those hobbies now.

I'd just sit her down and say this is what you really want to do. That you enjoy it and it makes you happy. She might not understand that. I'm sure if she did she wouldn't object.

Aaa, I don't want to totally derail this thread, but I just wanted to say that you should try out the customization thing if you like working with your hands. I actually have an MFA and have always been artistically inclined and TBH, sometimes I think about doing some customizing and selling again. I had painted a few resins and done a lot of custom plastics a while ago and was really deeply into that hobby for years. It brought me a lot of joy and there's a lot of incredible craftsmanship in it. Give it a shot!
