    Hog island boa

I saw another thread where hog island boas were mentioned as a good medium sized snake. I was hoping that there would be more members who could tell me about their experiences with the species. I'm not very familiar with boas.. At all.. I've been around a few but my current BP has been the only snake I've kept and I've only had him for a month so far. I do have experience with tegus (and will be getting another in a couple weeks), I'm not completely new to reptiles.
If I chose to make the plunge it would be a little bit still, I'm not looking to rush anything. I'm poking around some of the other threads on here as well. Thanks!

What about others like a pearl island boa? Is there a big difference? I'm googling as I go!

I got my pure Hog girl from Chad Duggin who I highly recommend. I also personally recommend Jimisnakes: I've gotten other boas from him and he works with Hogs too.

I've seen a lot of your pictures on other threads about hogs, yours are beautiful! Thanks, I'll look into them.

What do they usually end up weighing? I've seen 4-6' but I can't seem to find much on a weight or many visuals on how thick they get. If I were to get a boa I'd like to keep it around 6' max just because I don't have much experience with snakes yet. I'm also not sure how much larger you can go before solo handling can be come an issue. I'm pretty small myself, I've maxed out at 5' hahaha.

I just got my neonate last week... She's awesome! I can't even compare her to when I got my BP's as hatchlings. She is already more curious and interactive than my bp's are. I don't have much experience yet, but from what I do have, she'll probably be my favorite to handle.

From my research I gathered that hog islands have the best temperament of all the dwarf localities.

My big female is an '06 about 6 feet and about 26 pounds. I'm 5'2" and can easily pull her in and out of her cage. She is about as thick as my foot is wide. My male is a '10 and considerable smaller about 4 feet and around 2 pounds. They are both really friendly and sweet snake. Here are some of the pictures of my female I just took these yesterday.

I'm in the same boat... I'm trying to decide on whether I should get a Hog, Corn, or Pearl Island Boa and where should I get one from. I know I have to be careful, especially because I want a pure bred one.

I was also wondering what size enclosure is recommended (when they're adults) and temperature?

    Thanks for any tips.

Definitely recommend Chad Duggin!! I got my two Angolan Pythons from him and he is first-rate!

Hogs are great smaller boas. Many of the insular localities are smaller than their mainland counterparts. If you want to stick with a BCI, a Hog or male Colombian or maybe a Nicaraguan would be your best bet.
