I'm not looking at it wrong; I'm just not understanding how you could grip it to throw with the blades facing such that they'd rotate "correctly" without slicing into yourself in the process. Maybe if you throw it as if it were a frisbee? Does that work?

You are not looking at it in correctly. I have this exact knife and you are correct if you were to try and throw this knife the blade behind your hand would spin around and slice your hand something awful! Its pretty much worthless when it comes to function. Im sure its intention was to be a display piece and conversation starter.

You're looking at it wrong. If you look closely you can see the blade is on the inside of the curve, not the outside. So if you throw it at someone it will slice/hook into them.
