Re: Hatch-Rite..best place to buy?
I actually bought a bag of it when I first started out, but I read so many bad reviews where ppl had to add water and sometimes added too much water, I gave it away and went substrateless.

I had half a bag left over from last year. I used it this year and didn't have to add any water.
I do remember reading reviews when it first came out about people having issues with it drying out. However, I could never tell if it was due to the product, or operator error. I think a lot of it was newbie paranoia...OMG my eggs are deflating!!! <<< How many threads like that pop up only to find the eggs are a week away from hatching and are just fine. Some of the other complaints came from people breeding lizards or something that requires a different moisture content than Balls. Could have also just been a production problem early on that has since been sorted out.
I don't know...all I know is it works for me.

Works great for me.
Granted I have only been breeding 3 season but I have used it from the beginning and never had a problem.
Never had to add water (lids fit really tight on my tubs).
Not sure what problems some folks have but I actually enjoy using it , iys easy and convenient. The few extra bucks is worth it to me.

This hobby has always been about trial and error no matter what the issue was or is.
Find what works for you and run with it.
Good luck to all.

Hatchrite is perlite and it is not foolproof. I know a guy that let all of his eggs die because of the "no need to add water". It is a money making name to take advantage of people that don't know any better. I have perlite from 5 years ago. Rinse and reuse indefinitely.

It's been foolproof for me for the last 5 years...I'll roll with that...
