Rufous Beaked Snake

You have to know these species to understand why this is awesome. Anyways, they are really spastic as juveniles and are very aware and so they are always on high alert. Well I have 3, two are about 20 inches and the other is about 13". When I open the terrarium the others hide sometimes or they may stay out, but so far they go to hide when I reach for them, well my little guy doesn't. Matter of fact, he comes to my hand and trys to go up my wrist. At first I was going to reach for one of the larger ones but he went under the cave, so I lightly tapped on the substrate and low and behold the little one popped his head out. Then he went to my hand. Right now as I'm typing this on my phone he's wrapped on my left hand watching me type this.

My main thing is I'm just amazed at how calm he is for being so young.

I'm amazed at how dead the colubrid section is first off, now as I'm sure nobody will say anything, I was taking a video of my snake standing up, just cause I think it's awesome behavior.

Cool little snakes you got there. Never heard of them. Thanks for the vids. Awesome the little guy has an affinity for you. Perhaps it's a female and the others are males? Sometimes opposite sex animals will gravitate toward the opposite sex regardless of species. Or it could just be a curiosity the snake has.

:agreed: this section doesn't get a lot of attention. But the site is geared for BPs so take that as you will. The people who do pay attention to this section though know their stuff and have nice colubrid collections.

Although I could be wasting my typing as you have been a member here a lot longer than I.

Yea, I think most people heard of them in the Dec '08 issue of reptile magazines. I hope at least one of them is a female, be more awesome if two were females and one male, lol.

Yea I know it doesn't get a lot of attention and it used to get more back when I was still new. Then again most people that were back from that time aren't active anymore. Hopefully the section takes off soon again though as it would be nice.

They really are, and so unique. They're very curious and aware of everything that's going on around them. I honestly wouldn't think of a tamer snake then them. I mean even as juveniles or anything I don't believe they bite(though I've never dealt with them right out of the egg). I know I've had one that couldn't of been more then a few months and it never did anything remotely close to biting.

There's more people that keep them than you may think.

Every time I have a clutch of either oxyrhyncus or rubropunctatus, I sell them out within weeks. I can't move any other species as fast as I move these.

Just because they aren't discussed on the forums does not mean that there is a following for these animals.

I know that more people own them. I've watched the ones Ben had sell, as well as the person he got them from, Griphin from FCE. He got them from him and added a price on top, because I met Griphin at the Repticon in Baton Rouge and he had 9, now he has 5. All I meant is that the Colubrid section isn't as active as it once was, didn't mean that these snakes weren't kept very often. Also I was only saying that a lot of people didn't know about these snakes until that article was published. That's when I was aware of them, and then they've became my favorite species.
