100% Het for Carmel Male
So my snake Mycroft is a 100% Het for Carmel make BP. I'm still trying to assimilate the information in the stickies on morphs, but what could I breed him with to make interesting snakelings?? Also does anyone have a picture of what a homozygous Carmel looks like??
I'm not ready to breed him yet or anything, but am definitely interested in trying in the future...

Re: 100% Het for Carmel Male
Hi,
To get anything visual you would have to breed him to another het caramel ( I'd advise against a homozygous female caramel because of the kinking problem ).
And caramels look like this;

7 adult Royals (2.5), 1.0 COS Pastel, 1.0 Enchi, 1.1 Lesser platty Royal python, 1.1 Black pastel Royal python, 0.1 Blue eyed leucistic ( Super lesser), 0.1 Piebald Royal python, 1.0 Sinaloan milk snake 1.0 crested gecko and 1 bad case of ETS. no wife, no surprise.

How would I go about trying to find a female for him to breed (besides purchasing one myself)?? Obviously just advertising in Craigslist could attract unscrupulous snake owners...

Re: 100% Het for Carmel Male
Um.
The only way you could breed him to anything without buying more snakes would be a breeding loan.
Have a search on here to see what peoples experiences and advice about those is.

Thanks for the input; I'm probably gonna wait a while and see how well I'm able to care for the one and them see about feeling out the rest if the forum to see what experiences they've had.

Slight necro on this thread, but was wondering some about the different classifications of Carmel that are around...
I was just looking on the "World of Ball Puthons" color guide, and find that there are many, many Carmel color morphs; Carmel pewter, Carmel albino, etc.
are these the result of breeding a Carmel to one of hear other colors, or are these variants of the Carmel gene itself?? In other words, will Carmel x Carmel crosses produce these, or would it require Carmel x Pewter, etc??
thanks for the help; It's pretty confusing trying to understand snake morphs. The genetic terms and breed shorthand are so different than those used in mice
CRYSTAL MEPH
1.0 100% Het for Carmel Normal–Mycroft (P. regius)
1.2 Manx, Scottish Fold, Tabby–Mocha, Precious, Kitty-Beau (F. domesticus)
30.90 Breeder Mice (M. musculus)

To get a caramel pewter you would have to cross your het caramel with a het caramel pewter to get a 1/16 chance to get a caramel pewter in an egg (Visual Caramel * Pewter would not give you any visual caramel babies only hets). Caramel is just short for Caramel Albino unless I am missing something. My best recommendation is to do some reading online as to how recessive and Co-dominant genes work and how you can mix them together.

hits a little on recessive http://www.cranwill.com/faq22.html

Yes it is. Just a different name for a different set of genes. I guess having albino in its name does make this one a little more confusing.

Caramel is a recessive gene. So to get babies that look like a caramel BOTH parents have to have the gene whether they are visual or het for it. There are a lot of pretty caramels but some people don't care to work with them because of kinking issues or issues with females having slug eggs (non viable eggs). However, I am going to be diving into it anyway with my girl Eve who is (imo) a very pretty Caramel Glow (Caramel + Ghost):
