    Boa habitat at night. Photos.

This is doable for more than just boas.

No snake here, he is hiding.

Well, I think I'm 99% done with my enclosure. I have 1 more perch to find and cut for the inside.

I mounted a new light that does not disturb the snake at night an simulates real moon light. Its called the Arcadia Moonlight LED.

Its totally water proof and can be submerged in water. I think its' a nice light for about $21.00.

The plastic mounts were sub-par IMO but I bought some stainless steel ones that work better.

This is my cage at night.

Whether I'm feeding him or just want to relax with a beer or nothing at all and watch him

Mounting was simple. I have it next to the heat panel, and the strip LED is toward the back.

This may not be a breeder's "dream setup" but for the hobby snake owner with a few animals, I like it a lot.

I-Phone pictures do not do it justice. The clarity is quite good and the whole tank is dimly lit up.

I think that look really neat! The blue 'moonlight' type look is quite interesting, and inexpensive to boot I am assuming that is a PVC enclosure? I am looking into one of these to house my snake for the future when I think the 20L I have it in is no longer viable. Is this your first PVC enclosure? What do you think of it?

Yes, its a HDPE plastic cage. Pro-Line from Constrictors Northwest. I LOVE it!

I think its a great deal and IMO the best plastic going as far as cages. I would also say Animal Plastics makes a nice cage as well. It was neck and neck, but price and size helped me decide.

The LED light is affordable. I bought it from "Light Your Reptiles". It's a tube and not flat like I was expecting but I works perfectly.

I will more than likely use a timer for my day time LED light and run it from 7AM until about 7PM, then use a timer for the Moon Light and run 7PM until 2AM and go total black from 2 until 7 the next morning. According to the info the blue light does not affect the snake or disturb it.

I'll more than likely do all my feeding with just this light on.

I'll report any negative events if the light causes stress to the snake.

I live in Canada so unfortunately my options for cages is limited unless I make my own, or want to pay ridiculous amounts for customs/duties/shipping. I will more than likely end up purchasing from Greg West of Cornel's World Terrariums, as he is also local, so I would be able to pick the cage up in person. He uses PVCx. I purchased my Herpstat II from him a few months ago and was very pleased with the transaction.

Please keep us updated as to whether the blue light effects your snake at all.

Where abouts is Lethbridge? Pro-Line is made in Washington state right in the Seattle area. I imagine he could easily ship to the province you are in. The customs part I do not know about though. I believe there is a cage builder in Canada somewhere.

I hope you wind up with something good no matter what you do.

    Good luck!

    Greg is the MAN.

Gio, we live in Canada and there's not a lot of options for us.

I looked into buying a 6' cage from the states thinking that yes, I'd be paying more for shipping but it might come out to be less than the prices here.

    Not so..

$300 shipping, plus fees at the border.

Greg's cages are gorgeous and well made. I have two, as well as the 6 bin incubator he makes.

Those are beautiful. I'd go that route for sure. That's silly that you get dinged like that for merchandise across the border. It's plastic LOL!

    I should have posted this:

My cage so you could see it in regular light.

Lethbridge is in Alberta roughly an hour from the Montana border. Seattle would be a good 9 or 10 hour drive I would think. Even if I were to go pick it up, fuel prices, as well as customs/duties at the border, I would still get hit pretty hard on the money aspect. Does not make much sense when Calgary (where Greg lives) is only a 2 hour drive Canadian border puts duties on all merchandise from the States when you bring it across the border. Although, I think if I were to stay in the US for 48 hours, I could bring ~$700 of merchandise across duty free. Just a cash grab so that we are more apt to purchase merchandise produced in Canada, or that has already been imported.

To give you some perspective, I ordered a set of aftermarket wheels for my car from California last summer. The list on them was $899 for all four. By the time they got to my front door, the price tag had jumped to $1350. All that extra was shipping and duties.

I have found a couple other websites for vivarium/terrarium builders in Canada, but mostly in the East, and I would be looking at shipping charges yet again.

Is someone planning on diving into the world of breeding in the near future?
