Thinking of getting a Food Saver

Oh i thought you just slid the plastic in and it sucked the air out. Idk it touched the food (rats). That does seem a bit unsanitary lol.

The guy I buy my rats from (who's on this forum) put an ad up on craigslist for extra feeders. He's got quite the customer base now. I have to compete for my rats lol. I know PitOnTheProwl also sells his extra rats on here. You can always try to sell your extras locally. You might be amazed to find a breeder who needs rats for their collection.

Idk what kind of food saver you are using, but mine never touches the food, provided you allow enough plastic not to....I got mine at a yard sale for $5 with a whole roll of the plastic bags

I don't see why it couldn't be used for regular food too. all it does is suck air out of the bag and seal it shut. it doesn't put anything into the bags. I never use mine to package rats though just regular food. I use mine for breaking up big packs of food and for fish I catch mostly and would highly recommend it.

Mine doesn't touch either but if a rat slides out while I'm adjusting its position. Just on the safe side its only for rats.

Visibly it doesn't touch the rats. But - 1) You touch the rats with your hands to put them in the bags, then touch the machine to push the buttons (or are you really going to put on fresh gloves to insert rats, remove gloves to push buttons, and put on new gloves, for every bag of rats?). 2) The air (read: bacteria) has been surrounding the rats and is now sucked into the machine. 3) Any excess fluids can be sucked into the reservoir, which is washable, but still creates opportunities for cross-contamination.

Just to be clear, my caution isn't because they're rats, specifically, it's because these are whole carcasses that typically have (at least microscopic) particles of feces and urine in/on the fur, as well as other "nasties" (aka parasites). I personally wouldn't want any of that in the same air as my Choice NY strip.

You're being a total baby, anna!
Parasites= extra protein. And the grill burns off all the rat crap and piss. Whose the one who sings "what doesnt kill you makes you stronger"? Katy perry...? Ya'll need to take some advice from her! :p
