Popping female, probing male. Ball python
I have a ball python that is popping female every time and probing male every time I am unsure of the sex of it. It weighs about 1200 grams

My guesstimate would be that its a male and you just aren't popping the hemipenes out all the way.

A male that big will probably be pretty resistant to popping. He has the strength to keep his hemipenes where they belong, lol.

Does it probe male on both sides?
If so my guess is that you are not applying enough pressure when popping, and since males of that size have a lot more muscle control it makes it impossible for you to pop it correctly.
The best thing to do would be to have a second opinion.

Re: Popping female, probing male. Ball python
I have a known male about the same size and he probes twice as deep. But he is just a pet never going to be a breeder because he is just a normal.
