    Option 2. Probe needs to be directly on the heat tape. Put it vertical so its measuring more than one black heat strand, and tape it down with some aluminum tape or heavy duty heat resistant tape. Done deal. Ensure the wire is taped down as well... Or call someone who has long arms, drill a hole in the back, and have them reach back there and properly tape it down as described.
