    Rack Planning

So, I've currently got 1.1 balls, looking to get 1.1 more in the near future. The two that I've got are juveniles, probably around 4 months old. Future pair will be similar age or younger.

Obviously I can't do what I've done for my current pair and keep them in glass 10 gallon tanks. Too expensive, too much room, not efficient, etc. I'm going to be building a rack.

The question is, what size should I build? I know they're too small for 41q tubs right now, but should I go ahead and build the big one and fill up the tubs with stuff so they have room to grow, or am I looking too far into the future? Would a 28 q size work fine for a year or two?

I built mine to fit 41 qts, but it also holds 28 qts for my babies I'm getting. So I have 2 28 qts and 2 41 qts. A 28 qt only lasted my normal bp about six months..

But I raised my baby normal in a 28 qt just fine. I just use 2 reptile basics hides in her tub and she was good to go.

28 quart tubs will be great for a good while, males even longer than females. Fully matured males will be fine in 28 qt so id say your females would do just as well for quite some time in them as well.

    Rack Planning

I keep babies in 28qt until about 1200g if they are females. Then I move the lady's to 41.

I know I'm showing my noob stripes here, but how long is 'a good while'? What's the average age that the females tend to hit 1200g?

Mine hit 1200 grams in about 11 months give or take.

BUT, I did start her out on rats early, so that might have had something to do with her growth.

Hmmm... So what I'm hearing is that the 28q will be OK for males pretty much throughout their lives, but the girls will need bigger housing eventually? If that's the case then I'll start with the 28q rack and worry about the females when the time comes.

Like I said I started my first baby off in a 28 qt then moved her into her 41qt. You could do what I did and build a rack that holds both, that way you won't have to build a whole other rack.

Do you have a link to the rack that you built?
