This works just fine once the kid is old enough to make that kind of decision (for me, it was when I got my driver's license), but it isn't that simple when the kid is 3 years old, 10 years old, etc. There should be some guidance from parents while they are young, and that can cause conflict if two parents are telling them conflicting beliefs. Parents should have some kind of plan going into the situtaion of what consistent message they want their children to have.

Can't wait to go to Vet Tech school. I plan on finding my sweetheart there. I know she will be into the same things I am.

Not always. I made my choice early on. My dad was a staunch atheist, though, he didn't go around proclaiming it that I can remember, and my mom read me the bible. From a very young age, I had little interest in religion.

But see, even if they didn't formally discuss it, he let your mom be the outspoken one rather that disagreeing with her constantly in front of you to impress his own opinions.

    Re: Ugh, new dating standards

I have a unique religious background. My mother is catholic, my dad is Jewish. I was raised Jewish but exposed to all aspects of Catholicism. I began my atheist tendencies when I went into high school. I'm now very anti-religion but I still respect the beliefs of my family and friends.

Its a touchy subject. Obviously I would never be able to date someone who was extremely religious, but on the other hand I have no problems with individual spirituality. I have my own spirituality and it involves my connection with nature and the universe. Much more logical from my perspective

Except I had the opinion formed before she even started reading it. Prior to that, they didn't discuss it.

Well, Religion is different for me because I'm Pagan. I don't date Christians, never met a male Pagan, and I have a tendency to date Athiests. If I am talking about my beliefs it is because someone has asked. I was raised Southern Baptist and my family knows that I have no faith in the Bible. I believe there are good Christians, not that all Christians are good, same for Athiests and everything in between. It's just easier for me to date them because they don't ask, I don't tell, we don't argue. Simple and works well =)

I do think you should add that they groom themselves. Some guys out there don't know how to bathe or take care of themselves too well, I ran into a few of those while I was dating and it was a huge turn off.
