Re: Is burning of belly a big deal?
How are you regulating your hot spot? Do you have a thermostat? Or is it running unregulated? And don't assume they won't burrow. Yes, a burn is a big deal. It's painful and can get infected.

i use a light dimmer and its steady 88-92 degrees. they dont burrow because i keep an eye on her 24/7 and she never does.

I've never known my bp to burrow either, then again my substrate is only a half inch deep at the most. But mine does push the substrate around, not sure why, the top of the bedding is 92 to 93 at the most and the glass is maybe a half degree higher at any time. Dimmer switches are not reliable at all you need to get a good heat mat regulator, I bought the hydrofarm one off amazon and it works fantastically for me. it in combo with my heat light keeps the temps right where they need to be. so I would suggest getting a heat mat regulator ASAP

I wish I could afford a herpstat and wish I had reason to buy one to be honest. I wanted to do the same thing, but I decided against waiting to get a regulator because I didn't want to risk it since I know my uth gets REALLY hot if unregulated.

that's why i bought a dimmer for now, it was only like $20. herpestat is only $120, well worth it from the reviews they get.

I agree on the herpstat, but I just don't trust dimmers and my hydrofarm was only 15 bucks more. I hope you're snakes belly isn't burnt, I'm no expert and the computer I'm on can't load the pictures (at work atm) but from what you're describing it sounds like a burn to me. I really hope that's not the case and that someone on here who knows more will chime in.

Hello I posted a entry today and I am wondering if my ball python snake has a burnt. I'm trying to figure out what's causing his pink belly:

Sorry but this is really bad logic right here. You have to sleep/eat/leave the house sometime, so you don't know for sure that she never burrows.

LOL Annarose before even opening the thread I was going to post "go stick your hand on the burner, note the color your flesh turns, and tell me if you think it's a big deal."
