so im torn between a dumerils, rainbow boa or a BCC/BCI....thoughts? comments?

Make sure you will be able to keep the high humidity for a rainbow. Glass tanks are really hard to make work for one.

I would read all the care sheets and see which one you can care for best. They are all good choices.

Personally, if this is your first boa, I would recommend a Dumerils. I adore mine. I had BCI first, but after getting my Dum, I can see why they are the perfect first boa. She has the best personality ever and is just realy easy to work with and handle. The Dums can be a little tricky to get started feeding for you though - its their only downside. My female didn't eat the entire first month I had her. But she eats every week now! Usually, once they get turned on to food, there's no turning them off.

BCI are another great choice. A male won't be any larger than a Dum and will be slightly less heavy-bodied. They have wonderful personalities and are eating machines!

Both BCC and Rainbows can be a bit more temperamental and touchier with husbandry. I really would not recommend either of these for a first boa. Not saying it can't work, but in general, it's not recommended.

^^^^yep what she said! I personally love my dums but cant go wrong with a nice bci male if you want to stay on the smaller side of the medium sized snakes!

I love my dumerils to death. My ball python is very skittish and when I move past her to change water, clean, etc she just freezes or she runs away as to think "Oh gosh this big hand is back again in my home and going to harass me, oh no, run away, run away now!!!!". When I reach my hand in my dumerils she actually follows my hand like, "Oh hey there, you got some food? whatchya doing? Is it play time? Can I come out? Oh forget it I'm coming out anyways" (Everytime I open the tub she actually tried to get out and explore). I never thought I'd have a snake that had much "personality" but with my dumeril's its crazy, she has tons of personality for a snake.

Do BCIs and Dums have better feeding responses than BPs? I love my BPs to death...but this on and off feed is killing me.....

I have done abunch of research but just remind me how big BCIs and Dums can get?

sometimes baby dums will give a bit of trouble when you first bring them home but once you get them started theres no shutting them down. lol So a direct answer to your question yes. they have a way better feeding response than bp's! They are way more active than bp's also. I have begun replacing my bp's with boas and im not missing them at all! Male bci's average 5-6 feet and females 8'. that is an average obviously there are exceptions. some localities stay smaller and with bcc's your looking at 8' on the males and 12' females on average. As for dums my adult female is in the neighborhood of 6'7" and tipping the scales at about 43 lbs eating avery 14 days. my sub adult male that is about 2.5 years old is only 3.5 feet and about 6lbs. someone will straighten me out if I misquoted anything but that should be well in the ball park.

Taking into consideration all of the above mentioned info and advice...does anyone have any recommendations on BCI/dumerils breeders or websites that might have morph info?

Personally, I own all of the above, except a BCC, all of them are great snakes, and all can make great pets. Some things to consider;

BCI - they are great pets, but depending on the sub species you are interested in, they can get rather large. I have a Hog Island BCI, she's the coolest when it comes to personality, she's super curious and really friendly, but a little cage aggressive. She will probably only get between 5-6 ft long, which is easily manageable, but others CAN exceed 9-10ft long and are HEAVY lol.

Dumerils - this is an awesome species of boa for beginners, their and the BCIs humidity requirements are pretty much the same and require only a little more than a beep. This species females can get up to 8ft long, very heavy bodied animal, but the easy go attitude makes it manageable very easily, by even 1 person.

Brazilian Rainbow Boa - This animal can be a bit nippy as a baby, but after settling in and being handled frequently through life, they will calm down. The females can reach 7ft, but from what I have seen, remain very slender, and easily handleable as well. As others have said, they require high humidity, so if you want one, and want to use a tank, you can build a couple of humid hides for your animal. I actually use a water dish that hollow underneath and the humidity under it stays perfect for her, never had a health issue at all!!!

So with all this info I hope you can make the right choice for you!!!
