Frozen to live?

She is just over a year old right now and about 850g. I had her eating 2 rats a week for the entire last summer, fall, and beginning of winter until I had to move. I don't know if she has lost any weight because I don't have a scale, but was looking into getting one soon. As for the switch to live, I have also thought about the possibility of it ruining the f/t conversion. However, she has been extremely picky ever since the switch, so I don't know if I can really call her "converted" lol.

2 rats a week IS a lot. Feeding BPs too much can cause them to be pickier later in life. Also, at 1 yr of age, she may be feeling some hormonal changes and the time of year would be right for that. I would persist with f/t because offering her live may get her set on eating only live. Try to be patient until late April at least - give her a chance to get through the breeding season. If she does pick up eating again, I would stick to 1 appropriately sized rat every 2-3 weeks.

If it makes you feel any better, my 4yr old female has been off feed since October and has eaten only 4 times between then and now. And each of those feedings was a single large f/t mouse. Well under what she should have, but she still hasn't dropped any weight. They really can go a long time on very little.

We have 5 snakes and frozen can get quite pricey especially when they vary in age as well as size of food needed so we just started breeding our own with only 3 sets of 1:2 and then we euthanize ourselves and freeze anything older than 3 months in the freezer gets donated tot he local nature center.

this must be the first time in reptile history I found a post of someone trying to switch from f/t to live lol its usually the other way around!! I would buy in bulk or try to find a local supplier, some frozen rodent places have free shipping you just got to shop around. No need to stress over boas not eating..I mean a healthy happy boa will have a bottom less pit appetite, but it wont hurt them much to miss a few meals either.

Yeah, I have to agree. The only time I asked about this recently was to see if it would jump start our female Royal into feeding. I thought about it but decided no. I felt the risk to not being able to got back to F/T was too high.

I would think for just 1 Royal it would not be too expensive. Good luck!

F/T is a lot better if they will take it. My BRB eats f/t, but I have to warm up the head a touch with a blow dryer.

My BPs...no luck with f/t. I hate wasting it if they wont take it. Live...zero problems. Eating like a champ, growing like a weed.

BCI - F/T would save me a lot of anxiety. A large rat is intimidating, and she will need jumbos soon. I think about the damage they could do and I shudder. So far no luck. Live? 3 secs. no pain for the rat. its quick and clean.

2 smalls - BPs roughly every 7-12 days.

1 med F/T or live - BRB - 7-10

large - BCI. - every 7. sometimes 2 smaller med.

Gonna try and buy f/t in bulk at next herp show.
