Made my decision going with Corns. What Morphs?

I've got a stupid question.

While I was researching corns I came across a website that said I could breed corns x2 during the year. Is this true?
Corns can sometimes double clutch. They will breed once, lay eggs for you, and then lay eggs again (a smaller clutch) later on.
Whats the general feed for Corns? Mice or rats? I'm guessing I can go with either one?
Corns are generally mouse eaters. Most corn owners keep them on mice their entire lives.

You can breed corns at anytime durring the year, but unless you brumate I think you should only aim for one clutch per corn. Mice, mice, mice! Yumm. I wouldn't feed rats unless you're doing it to give gravid females a boost. Just because of how much fat is in a rat pup compared to a grown mouse.

Yes, you can breed a female twice, however, it's not recommended. They spend a lot of energy laying eggs and if you have them double clutch, they don't have a chance to regain that weight. Another thing to consider is that not all corn snakes will give you two clutches and some will give you two clutches without you reintroducing a male. It's really all dependent on the female.

As for feeding, I feed all my corn snakes mice from the Munson plan (http://medusa-corns.webs.com/feedingchart.htm). It has worked out well for me thus far and I plan to continue to use it. You can, however, feed rats, but if you do, I'd advise you to use this chart on when to start feeding rats (http://i584.photobucket.com/albums/s...mousesizes.jpg) You can also go by prey weight. Some pinky rats are MUCH larger than fuzzy mice (more like hopper mouse size). Whatever is easier for you.

As for what morphs to use, I would HIGHLY suggest you look at what you want to breed for. There are only a handful of morphs that are dominant morphs. 95% are recessive so when you start buying snakes, make sure to take into account what they are het for!

I will be breeding my corn snakes this time next year. I'm working with the following adults: anery motley het amel male, snow female, bloodred het hypo/lavender/motley PH amel and caramel, hypo lavender PH motley male, and a miami phase female. I plan on pairing my anery with the snow and the bloodred with the hypo lavender (my long term project is hypo lavender bloodreds). My miami phase has no breeding plans for her but I may buy her a miami boyfriend eventually.

Also, follow the rule of threes when breeding: females need to be three feet long, three years old, and three hundred grams.

im fairly new to the corn world and only have a couple pairs but heres my thought on it. buy stuff that can be paired up together to make a variety of morphs. I bought 1.0 patternless lavendar het amel and 0.1 amel het patternless lavendar. that way I get opals, patternless opals, amels, patternless amels, lavendar patternless, and all are het for what ever they arent visible for. I just feel like it gives me more of a variety so it will make it easier to sell the excess babies. I also picked up 1.0 butter motley and a 0.1 butter het motley. and 1.0 sunglow het anery 0.1 snow het hypo. I think those 3 pairs will give me a good diverse amount of babies without trying to get rid of say 10 of the exact same thing.

That's exactly what I was advising I like seeing a variety of babies hatch out. Since I have a 1.0 Hypo Lavender PH motley and a 0.1 Bloodred het hypo/lavender/motley, I can hatch out normals, hypos, lavenders, motleys, etc. It's just so much for fun (in my opinion) to not know EXACTLY what you're getting instead of breeding say a hypo with a hypo to get more hypos.

The only thing is it's not always a smaller clutch. I'm also pretty sure that's it's more genetic versus when you breed them. My original girl, Kitai, double clutched pretty much every year. First year she was bred, she gave me 44 eggs (22 in the first clutch and 22 in the second, surprise!). Luckily, she never did that again but after that, I always fed her extra along with a calcium substitute through her laying season because those second clutches do a number on them if they can't gain enough weight back in between. I know a couple of her daughters do the same thing when bred and repeatedly give their owners double clutches every year. Just something to keep in mind.
