I agree about getting a thermostat. The heat can get well over 100 degrees and the carpet in between can actually make it even hotter because its trapping heat and it can melt the heater and be a potential fire hazard.

From what I've seen so far It's pretty normal....he/she's just checking their surrounding.

I'll have to look and see if I can find a thermostat with a lead long enough...but when I tested the carpet with a temp probe it read 92.5-92.7.....which is his hot spot.

Put the thermometer (temp) probe UNDER the carpet to see what it's really building up to. What do you mean a thermostat with a long enough lead? That probe goes under the tank between the UTH and glass, and the UTH plugs into it, then the stat plugs into the wall. If your wall is close enough to plug in the UTH, then there shouldn't be any issue plugging in the stat.

Oh...Sorry, I assumed the lead would go on the inside of the tank, and for a probe to make it all the way down to where the uth is I would need at least a 30" lead.

Now, considering the UTH is already stuck to the underside of the tank, how am I supposed to get the probe between it and the glass without damaging the heater?

A lot of times you can GENTLY pry the UTH up just enough to shove the probe underneath it. Otherwise, you can try this: http://ball-pythons.net/forums/showt...removing%20UTH

I only attach a UTH to a tank/tub using aluminum foil tape, not the built-in sticky stuff, so that it can be removed, transferred, etc., as needed (I know it's a bit late on that to help you).

Thanks. I saw the thread on how to remove one...but I think I can pull up a corner and get it under there. I"ll order a thermo and let you guys know how I make out.
