Giving it a good spray just during shedding time shouldn't give you any problems with scale rot... It's wet/dirty conditions over a period of time I spray mine enough to get the top layer of substrate good and damp, about 3-4 times a day. Also, our display tank has a screen top which is terrible for humidity and heat loss, so we've covered it with a big piece of HD aluminum foil. Really keeps the heat and moisture in. I also put her water dish partially over where the UTH is so it evaporates off, creating more humidity... I just have to refill it a lot more often
