Re: Maybe I will get one?

I love my northern pine snake. He has some serious personality. Don't get me wrong I love my ball python and boa too, but the pine snake has a very large extra heaping of personality, curiosity, I would even call him silly. Like most pits, he can put on a huffing and puffing and VERY loud hissing (there is a vane of cartilage in front of the glottis which makes it a lot louder!) or even imitating a rattlesnake by rattling his tail against something and you hear a buzzzzzzz... It's almost always a big act and when you grab them they stop.

Definitely check out the pits (they are all under colubrids). They're just fun. That includes bullsnakes by the way.

Here's a short video of me teasing my northern pine snake and getting him to "rattle": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WBjHE78fyrQ

Of course my ultimate favorite would be Eastern Indigo but I live in GA

Anyway among those I can keep I would have to say that on the small side my favorite would be this

and on the large side it would have to be this

I have worked with Cali Kings, Rat Snakes and Honduran Milksnakes as well but the 2 above are my favorites.

Mine is about 4.5 feet. I have heard they can be (are supposed to be?) bigger, however, that may be people getting confused because other pine snake types can be larger.

This is a male we are talking about by the way. They're quite slender, so there is not much to them for that length.

Hmm I may have too look into one, my balls eat most my rats and the carpet eats the ones that grow too big but I gotta find a snake or two that eats smaller than balls to take over all extras. Ok sorry kinda hijacking ill do some research! Ha

Re: Maybe I will get one?

I am a corn snake fan. Sounds boring, but it's only because corns have been around so long. As far as pattern and color variety, second only to balls. Other than a few select high end projects, there are corns that can fit into anyone's(nearly) budget. And they are about as idiot proof as a snake can be. Very partial to corns as far as colubrids go, but they're all pretty awesome. Even though corns are my favorite, generally speaking, my favorite particular colubrid that I've owned was a Brook's King.

There is so many amazing colubrids to choose from I don't even know where to start. Oreocryptophis porphyraceus coxi are awesome. So pretty! . All the Drymarchon's are wicked! Depending on where you live indigo's might not be an option but Cribos are for sure. Lately I've personally been focused on adding a blue beauty (Orthriophis taeniurus callicyanous) or 2 to the collection. Those are stunning and impressive animals for sure. Oh and lets not forget Spilotes pullatus and Rhynchophis boulengeri they are both very cool animals.
