Stepping away from the hobby for a while
Tomorrow I have to give my two ball pythons a new home because I am set to move into a house within the next two months. The owner of the house does not appreciate snakes or reptiles of any kind. I am heartbroken to have give up my male normals, especially the one that basically started it all for me in this hobby. I have decided that I am taking a long break from ball python keeping. This hobby has been a great passion for me and I will sadly miss it. I am just lucky that the dude that owns the house is even letting me have my cat and dog on his property. To many people have had animals on this guy's property before only to have their animals destroy everything so that is one of many reasons why he is not allowing me to have my snakes. I tried to reason with him and tell him that my snakes will not destroy his property because they are in secure enclosures but it was a no go. I respect this man's wishes. I just feel blessed to have had the privilege of keeping my snakes as long as I have. This is a bitter sweet situation.

That's a shame..so many people have such a terrible image upon snakes...no luck finding a house that would allow snakes? I know its got to be tough to give up any kind of pet

That is very respectful and considerate of you. I'm sure he appreciates it! The hobby will be here right where you left off. glad you get to keep your cat and dog. If he wouldn't accept my cat, we would have to find a new place to live!!!
Haha destroying the house.
Wouldn't want those BP's getting out and digging through the trash or tearing up the house!

Re: Stepping away from the hobby for a while
I'm sorry to hear that. At least you don't have to get rid of all your animals.
But yeah, kinda ridiculous. Dog and cat are going to do more damage than snakes...

So sorry that you can't take them with you Some people just seem hardwired to think "Scaly things bad. Very bad"
I hope you're able to find somewhere soon that you can keep reptiles again, or maybe get through your landlord's (thick) skull that reptiles would do 0 damage to the house. My landlord won't allow dogs or cats in the house, it still stinks like cat litter/piss in places where the past tenants had let things go. When we asked him about the reptiles all he cared was that they wouldn't do any house damage. So we're a no dogs, cats, or big fish tanks allowed, but reptiles are ok house. I can tell ya he was a bit surprised when I hugged him. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you!

I just had to put my Bp in time out for those very reasons! She's a trouble maker.. =\
Our general public really needs an education about snakes. We live with morons..
