Thinking of getting a Boa...

Hi thinking of getting a Boa... I have 12 Ball Pythons and the wife dont mind the size of them.. just wondering if any Boas stay kind of in the 3 to 4 feet range..had a red tail boa 5 years ago but got to big for my wife and kids...any idears would be nice...thanks

Rosy boas don't usually go above 3. That's kind of an awkward size range for 'traditional' (BCI-related) boas; a male Hogg Island might be your best bet. Everyone who has them raves about their disposition and laid back vibe, run a few searches on here for them. If you're up for a bit higher on the intensity (husbandry/personality) scale, a male ATB would also fit that size range

If you want something that small I recommend a Central American male, those *usually stay smaller than Hog Islands even. It depends on the individual snake though, maybe ask how large the parents are.

Yea, 3-4 ft is a tough range for boas. Central Americans and Hogs will usually top out around 5 ft. Rosy boas are a good choice as they don't get more than 3 ft. Kenyan Sand boas are cool, but they stay even smaller at around 2 ft.

If you can find one, Pearl Island boas are a much smaller locality and usually don't get more than 4 ft. But they are harder to find. Ben Seigel sometimes offers one in his FB auctions.

I would go with a Tarahumara Mountain boa. Males are usually 3 foot or less, while females are usually less then 4 foot. Rio Bravo Reptiles and Vin Russo @ cutting edge. They are mellow and look nice as well. This is one of mine.

Rainbow boas easily break your length requirement, but they are so darn skinny it doesn't matter. They essentially get to the size of an overgrown corn snake. In terms of total size if you look at mass rather than length, boa constrictors dwarf rainbow boas by many many times their size. 6-7 feet long and single digit weight in pounds is what you are looking at for the biggest of them.

I agree with the Tarahumara and I would add pure Nicaraguan's, males reach about 3.5'.
