..Can I just say that it's close to impossible to find a vet on a Sunday, let alone one late in the evening?

Had an emergency last April on a Sunday. It was 'round 11am when we started making calls. Took 4 hours and countless phone calls until we were able to get a hold of someone.

Everyone is saying to put the animal down. If you're not able to find a vet, that means doing it yourself, and I really doubt that most people here would be able to do it themselves.

Apparently just finding a vet was not the problem. Finding a vet that's a herp specialist was.

A lot of vets won't touch animals they don't specialize in or have knowledge dealing with. Once tried to find a vet that had knowledge about goats. I ended up being ping ponged between four different vets before finally ending up with the one I started with.

Don't use neosporin or any oil based product. It will turn the scales to mush.

I've used it before, but it was only on a very small rat bite. Didn't notice anything adverse. Have you personally had that happen when using it? I've never heard of that. Only that you don't use Neosporin, or any other antibiotic that has pain reliever in it. Just curious. Thanks!

Soak him daily (or twice daily) in a betadine bath (water temperature in the mid 80's)

I would argue that deciding an animal is suffering needlessly, and deciding that some pain is worth it for survival are two directions of the same decision. There are people strongly sided on both sides, but no one can tell us what the snake wants. When a person takes an animal into their control, it is their responsibility to make this decision on their pet's behalf. No one can claim to know that any animal WANTS to survive any more than they can claim it WANTS to be put out of its misery. I suppose my main point, although I will admit it my have been poorly phrased the first time, is that this decision requires active participation and responsibility from the animal's owner.
