The "Fancy Mice" we sell are too large to be feeders anyway. The store doesn't even have any other than frozen pinkies and fuzzies for store use. A problem with this could be said that the meals are too small for the ball pythons, but the baby corns eat the pinkies just fine. The store also doesn't know the sex of the snakes. They don't pop or probe any snakes because of the risks involved. I'm a snake keeper and my staff knows that so when asked I will pop the ball pythons, but I'm not comfortable doing it to the tiny corn snakes. As far as I know we've never assist fed either. None of our snakes stay at the store long enough to miss more than a couple meals. And I have yet to see a snake get returned because of failing health. I'm not saying this to try to make my store look good in any way. Just to make the point that we take care of our animals. Anyone who has heard of a store assist/force feeding or feeding live needs to report that store to the advisement phone number listed on the animal habitats in store. Just report it, don't condemn the nationwide specialty store because of a few rule breakers. I'm sure I'm not the only PetSmart employee who is a user of this site.
Most petsmarts in my area are terrible about their reptile husbandry. My wife and I have reported lethargic and half dead reptiles to management numerous times. They always come back with a "oh they just got that way today" or some BS line. I am not saying they are all bad by any means. I have seen more bad than good tho.

Their stick on hygrometers and thermometers are a joke. The animals are deliberately under fed so they "don't get too big" while at the store. As well as a few other things. I am not condemning them all, but there is a lot of ignorance in petco and petsmart when it comes to reptiles.

And this is why I wouldn't mention the store on employees here or any where. They have my number and call me when needed.

Absolutely. I'd help them get their husbandry good as well and help educate. The ones I have been to around here seem to be thick headed and un wanting of advice or help.

I don't blame the company necessarily. Just the employees/management that chooses to not learn how to do things correctly.
