    My ball python has mites!

My new ghost ball python i aquired early in the week has mites. He is in quarintine since i had him in a seperate room like i do with all my new snakes. I noticed it yesterday. So i went out and bought Provent a Mite and Reptile relief. So far i soaked the 10 gallon tank with hot water to the lid for a hour with soap, rinsed well, and sprayed PAM. The tank is drying now and i will use paper towel bedding and just a ceramic cave and water dish which have been soaked. I soaked my snake for about a half hour and killed many of the mites but they are dead stuck under the scales. Then i sprayed reptile reflief on him besides his head and patted it in a bit with a cloth. Now his belly is bright pink. Is this from the soak or the RR? Also i am going to treat all my snakes enclosures with the PAM just to make sure later on. Also I am nervous all this stress will result in him not feeding for a bit. How long should i keep him in a paper towel set up and should one PAM usage do the trick for his cage? Thanks for any input i never had mites in the 15 years ive been keeping reptiles so any ideas will be greatly appreciated!

Ok so the redness got worse so i rinsed his body in lukewarm water and a hour later his belly is back to a light pink/white color. I dont know if i should use the reptile relief again since it made his scales irritated. Should i just stick to soaking? And also how do i get rid of all these dead mites under his scales?

Use betadine solution for soaking. Mix with warm water until it looks like weak tea. Use a q tip to remove dead mites. Use paper towels or news print. Card board boxes for hides. Throw it away every day and soak the snake in that mix for twenty minutes. Since you already have the Pam use it to spray the cage every day before remaking it and returning the snake to its enclosure. I did that except for the Pam I used a 10% bleach solution for cleaning the cage and was mite free in about 10 days.

    Edit:
The pink belly could it be just getting ready to shed? But I'd probably wait until the cage was completely dry after spraying it before pitting him back in and maybe not using the RR

Do NOT spray your cage once a day with pam, that's terrible. Only spray once a week and bleach is also really bad on snakes.

If you rinse the cage well the bleach will not cause an issue. I also would not spray the cage daily. For the red belly, How hot was the water? What could feel warm to you is extraordinarily hot to him. I always recommened checking water temp of soaks with a digital therm or a temp gun. 88.f works great but that will feel cold to us because out bodies are around 97.f.
I'm not a fan of rr, Pam has always worked well for me.

I only used it once. I sprayed the PAM for about 3 seconds and it left a film after 3 hours. Its greasy to the touch also. Is this normal? Im afraid to put my snake back in there also.

And it still has a faint odor. I went to a pet store and he said he buys provent a mite thats not resellable and its a small can not as large as the one ive seen online. I hope its not something else.

sorry for the lack of info was in a hurry and missed a step. Ive personally never used PAM so have no clue if it is safe to use on a daily basis. also with the bleach (after reading other post and re reading mine) I forgot to mention that you really need to scrub with hot water and dawn to kill the smell and any chemical residue left by the 10% bleach solution. I never use straight bleach and certainly cant put an animal back into an enclosure that still has the odor of bleach.

the water was About 85-90 degrees i stuck a probe thermometer from a old snake tank in the water to make sure since my hands could not tell the temp from scrubbing the tank with hot water.

And i wiped the "extra" on the sides and it seemed to dry now with no odor. I just hope its actually PAM. Its a silver can with the label ripped off with a white cap and its pretty small. The pet store said they rip the label off because they are not for resale.. He just gave it to me. Hes in the enclosure now so hopefully he will be alright.
