Eh. I believe it's possible to make smart investments and make money in the industry. You would have to dig really deep into your pockets, and have some solid females to start with.. I recommend first picking up several powerful females and raising them up. Later on down the line, if you're still interested, you'll have big girls ready to breed. If not, well then those powerful females will have gone up in price, since they're quite large.
When you decide you really want to breed, I think you're going to need to dig even deeper into your pockets.. Way deeper than $3000... Find a good looking, high-potential single gene male to invest a lot of money in, and make combos. Supply the higher end market with combos of this rare morph, as well as lower end combos. I could be completely wrong, since I'm not a "large bp breeder". But this seems to make sense. Most of the big breeders have some really high end stock. They invest hundreds of thousands of dollars into producing the next big thing. Not so much the 7 gene animals, but the rare 2-gene combos that look awesome. Those combos also help push the popularity of a single gene.
What was told to me was go big or go home. I'm not trying to start a huge business. That's not my goal. I just want to have baby ball pythons all the time. LOL. I want to be able to afford it. EVERYONE wants extra money, and if this hobby does make me some profit, well who the hell am I to argue??? LOL. Obviously I haven't made any money because I keep buying snakes, but I'm having a ton of fun taking pictures, talking about morphs, and raising snakes that look hot when they age.
