And just another question, I keep on reading about those who go to college and take the ROTC path don't get treated with much respect after they get deployed, is this true?

I wouldn't say that it's entirely true. But a good bit of those that go to college and then the military can get cocky. When I was active duty in TX I was at the PX the one day and a fresh butter bar was walking through the parking lot and locked up a guy in civilian clothes yelling at him why he didn't salute him. After about 5 mins of being yelled at the guy asked him "are you finished sir?" And the butter bar said yes and the guy told him to be in his office the next morning because he was a captain of another unit on post. Would have loved to have been a fly on a wall for that the next day.

The respect is earned, not learned in a class room. This is a good read.

This is a question mainly based off curiosity, but as far as weapons go, are you issued the optics and such that go along with it, or does everyone have open sights only?

Standard issue is the m-16 or m-4. Depending on your unit and Mos you can get the goodies to add on.
