I honestly can't answer what "I" would do. If you are concerned about the individual take out a restraining order. Also, just curious would this person really be willing to catch several charges (b&e, destruction of property, trespassing, just to name a few) just to have fun.

I honestly think he would do it. And for me it's not even the money nothing can replace my buddy the bts or my first snake. The minute he said that legitimately, I didn't think just went at him.

Thanks for the clarification. I was like, "Yep. That would fall into the category of 'unusual'...to say the least."

I'd second the opinion that you should consider a personal protection order. Honestly, if you say you have reason to believe he'd make good on his threat, the PPO probably wouldn't stop him. Someone who is unstable enough to break into a house and kill someone's pets probably isn't going to be deterred by a court document. But if you have one in place and he violates it, it's just more back up for your case.

As for punching him, don't do that again. That kind of behavior fuels the fire. It also shows the court, should they have to get involved, that the aggression is/was mutual rather than him attacking you. Really when you're dealing with a person like the one you describe, he expects you to punch him because that's what he would do. Be bigger than the trash you're dealing with. Nothing irks them more.

I hear guard alligators are in right now.

I have a nasty temper myself. I've been trying to master it for years and years, but something like this and I'm afraid I'd have been the one to end up in jail, not the other way around. Of course, he wouldn't have been in any condition to break into anyone's home, or even a bag of potato chips for that matter.

That being said. If this individual is as unstable as you say, do get the local authorities involved. You can legally request patrols around your house if you or your family feel threatened by this person. If you know anyone who has been a witness to his unstable behavior, get them to tell police about it as well. You can take out a restraining order, it is a good idea. Just realize that it is just a piece of paper. Notify any close neighbors of your problems with this person, and ask them to keep an eye out for any suspicious behavior around your home. Offer a small reward if one catches him around your house and calls the police before he can cause harm.

Do consider updating your house. Put bars in the windows to prevent them being opened easily. Change your door locks. Invest in a deadbolt if you don't have one, and a chain lock isn't a bad idea either. If there are trees/bushes that grow up close to your home, cut them down or back and make it hard for him to hide. Install motion activated lights outside, and consider an alarm system. They can be really reasonable nowadays. Or invest in a handful of mini security cameras for inside and outside. If you catch him on camera prowling around or attempting to break in, you can send him away for a long time.

Consider changing the location of your animals inside your house. Make them impossible to see from outside, and harder to find inside. Last but not least, invest in a warning sticker for your front door that tells people you are armed and will respond to violence with force if necessary.

I probably would have punched him in the face too but it would have been for the shove and not words. Do you have any kind of home protection? I highly recommend a shotgun with some buck shot and keep it close if you are truly worried this guy will get into your house. They are pretty affordable, dont need anything too fancy. But if you are on a serious budget a taser and a baseball bat works ok....

My mom has had a concealed weapon for years. I also have a .22 rifle in my room. I don't think this guy is out to hurt me physically. We do have cameras at my house too. I'm really not scared for my safety, but my snakes. But I'm not scared for them anymore because I think the punch may have scared him off

If a punch scared him off, he must not be that crazy.
