The various places that the African governments want to implement population control measures are capable of being hunted. They sell a hunting experience to rich westerners. The ivory is harvested by the governments (possibly destroyed?); the meat is distributed to local tribes/villages.

You can hunt them via rifle, big calibers for a double lung shot, giant calibers (big nitro express rounds for example) for 10 yard straight on though-the-forehead-brain-shot, and there are even plenty of bow-kills on youtube. A typical bow setup is with HEAVY arrows, BIG (300+ grain) fixed blade broadheads (better penetration than mechanicals), and 100lb draw compound bows.
