    I give up

Ok I stubbornly have a 20 gallon long tank, 2 hides, aspen blah blah blah. 65% humidity, 87 degrees F hot, 78 cold. And it's a nightmare to keep it like this. A NIGHTMARE. Every nigh I have to wet the towels to keep the humidity up, clutter the place with crumpled newspaper (the snake shows great affinity in using the newspaper as a hide. And crawls over it many times.), finding urates and feces is a sick treasure hunt through the aspen. And not to mention the snake loves to make aspen tea in her water bowl. Oh yeah not to mention I wake up at night because the snake always makes those crinkly sounds by crawling on the newspaper. I have to block 3.5 sides for her to feel safe. The last straw was when I found some dried poop and urates mixed in the aspen. I realized that this is very disgusting and will affect my snake's health. And I can't live with that ever. Sounds like over reacting but I'm very very intense when it comes to providing care for an animal in my possession (and other people's but they don't appreciate it too much. Too bad or then.) /endrant

The point is I'm switching to a rack.
    Problem:
My room fluctuates between 70-78degrees. I have a weird Asian heating thing that looks like a fan and I turn that on when it gets to 73 or so. It gets to 70 only during the cold season which lasts for maybe a month or two. And this is at night time. I can obviously turn the heater in before I go to bed so my snakes don't freeze.

I have 16 ish quarts of aspen left... Sigh.

And I'm pretty much terrified of the fact that I will end up buying more snakes to fill the rack. And it doesn't help that i live 10-15 minutes away from Brian Gundy. I think the only solution is to... Buy more snakes. So I guess that's a problem solved.

But on a more serious note the temperature should be ok right? And I was planning to order an animal plastics rack but I have a few issues. I really want the 4/8 economy rack (for the size) but I also want an enclosed rack. The enclosed ones hold at least 7 shelves. Do they make enclosed racks that are 4/8?

Ditto, tanks are fine for some species, imo they aren't a good choice for ball pythons.

Your room temps are fine, just make the hot spots up around 95 degrees and the ambient temps will be ok.

Yeah no kidding. I roll my eyes every time I have to lift that stupid screen top with 2 towels and a heat lamp on top of it.

If you don't want more snakes, you can always just use an individual stand alone tub rather than a rack.

    Temps sound fine.

But does anyone know I animal plastics will make an enclosed 4/8 rack? Or do I have to insulate it myself?

    Re: I give up

maybe an A.P t3 or t8 enclosure would work for you since you only have one snake at the moment the temps and humidity will hold very easily, I have an A.P 1860/1960 41 quart 4 tub rack wich will work for a ball python but the cool end of the tub is only as warm as the room its in so if your room is only 70-73 i would think the rack on the cool side would be to cool unless you use a heater to heat up the room. now that being said this is my first rack and its set up on a herpstat thats set at 92 and usually holds the hot spot at about 89-91 and the cool side is almost always sitting right were the room temp is set to which is 76. im sure a more seasoned ball keeper will chime in and maybe have a suggestion on how to get the cool side temps up but for all i have done on mine its usually right there with what the room temps is. goodluck and dont let it get to you it will work out in the end!!
