I'm pretty sure that the Mayan calendar is a lunar calendar, so leap year would have no affect on their calendar. I don't believe the world is going to end, but then again no one is promised the next day. So who knows, maybe it will maybe it won't.

    1) fingers crossed for zombies. We are getting close people! Remember the rules for the zombie apocalypse: keep the cardio going and always buckle up.

    2) If you really understand the Mayan calendar it is about the end of an "age" so to speak and the beginning of another. I cant remember the dates but the last "age" ended during recorded civilization and here we still are. We are also superimposing our modern views on to this situation. We see the world in a linear fashion: everything has a beginning and an end. The Mayans (as did a lot of ancient civilizations) viewed the world in a more cyclical manner: birth, death, re-birth. Think of the seasons, rotation of the planets, etc. So the Mayans would most likely never believe in an actual "end" to the world but rather an ending of one era or age and the birth of another one. Of course there could be a new era without humans I suppose.

Well since Im so bored that Im poking holes in my own argument I think Ill call it a night

if the word does end on dec 21 2012 so what? it ends. and plus nobody in history can look in the future if you believe the myans are special "Mexicans" you're stupid. and the myans are so stupid their civilization went goodbye a few thousand years ago. there's nothing relevant about what they did.

They were far from stupid. The Mayans lived in relative harmony with their environment and did it sustainably at first, but as time went on and deforestation helped contribute to a bad drought, the land could no longer sustain the huge populations of Mayans in the cities whose population density reached as high as 2000 per square mile. More deforestation let to more temperature rises and less rainfall, so they would go somewhere else and repeat the cycle. Modern civilizations are doing the exact same thing, only we're doing it on a global scale. Who's stupid now!? LOL

Wait wait wait. Who's waiting for the zombie apocalypse (takes a second to make sure u see his name). This guy! Lmao.

In all seriousness, like others have said, the descendants of Mayans are still around and don't understand why people think the world will end. There was a fairly new discovery on temple steps that continues predictions on into the 3000s. Like was said before, it was just the ending of that measure of time to start into the new.

On a funny note, it is my ex wife's birthday and I can't help but comment that I'm sure if it happens, it's her fault
