rtb and dumerils rack question.

I recently rescued an adult female dumerils boa. She is in a display cage at the moment. Getting her has made want to get back into boas again. I had a few back in 2000 but I used 100 gallon tanks. I want to go with racks and was wondering what size tubs and where to get some quality racks that won't break the bank. Thanks all.

Don't know that I have ever heard of anyone keeping grown boas in tubs in a rack.

The way to go is a stack of PVC reptile cages. That is what most people use.

Not dead set on racks. Just dead set on never going back to tanks! Those ars cages are sweet but a little pricey for me. Stackable caging sounds like the way to go. Any recommendations on those? Thanks again for the help folks.

You could go with animal plastics or boaphile, I think there are others too but I can't think of them right now but I hear good things about both. I am planning on going with boaphile but some people don't care for his customer service but I like the product so that doesn't bother me, plus it is put together and free shipping. Hope you find something useful!

I agree with Aaron - a stack of pvc cages is your best bet. I would personally go with Animal Plastics. Their customer service is unmatched and even though they do ship unassembled, you only need a screwdriver to put them together (although an electric screwdriver is most helpful). Their product quality is far superior as well. I have racks/pvc cages from both Boaphile and AP and the AP product is sturdier even though I put it together myself. And Amy in their customer service department is very helpful.

This is my experience with Boaphile. You, of course, need to make your own decisions and I'm sure there are many folks here who have done fine with the Boaphile. But now you are informed of all the possibilities.

If you do choose to go with a rack and the ARS racks are out of your budget, AP does make a rack specifically for boas: the VE175 rack. Click on the "what's new" tab to the left if this link doesn't take you directly there. The downside to this rack is that you have to buy the tubs yourself - and good luck finding them except at Walmart over the Christmas holidays.

At AP, as a minimum, I like the T13 for fully grown boas (BCI), especially females. The T10 would probably be ok for smaller males or for the dwarf localities. If you choose to work with BCCs, then you'd need the T20.

Ok been doing some home work. I found some tubs that I think will work with a little engineering. I'm fairly handy as I've made most of my own melamine bp racks. However with the size and weight I am going to try my luck with pvc. I will be working with dumerils and Colombian boas so for adults would 60" x 36" x 12" be large enough tubs? as for new babies I'm planning on using 41 quart sterelite tubs. Probably over kill on baby tubs but I like giving them plenty of places to hide and regulate.

They are more intelligent and more inquisitive than BPs, not to mention less shy. So they are not as content to live in close fitting tubs like BPs are. The 12" height may invite nose rubs. If you're going to do a DYI rack with pvc, why not just build cages?? Shouldn't be any more difficult - ACE hardware will cut glass or plexiglass for the front. And it would be better for the boas....

Very valid point. Thanks for all the help. Making stackables out of PVC would give them more space and be very close to the same price as buying tubs and building racks. I'd much rather have happy critters than save a few pennies on caging. Also stacables make it easier to see them
