I had guinea pigs when I was younger. Had to give them up due to severe allergies

Just don't let the snake near the pig.

Re: Ball Python + Guinea Pigs

I raised guinea pigs for a few year...could never imagine even a 3,000+ gram bp eat an adult guinea pig without potentially inflicting some damage upon itself...guinea pigs get huge, compared to rats, and I wouldn't even entertain feeding XL rats to the majority of balls I've seen. I've fed off quite a few newborn guinea pigs, which at that point they're already the size of a smallish medium rat. And as fast as baby guineas grow, it's only about 2-3 weeks tops till they become too large for most adult bp's.

    This.

I have a large girl who eats "large" rats, but can't even handle my biggest retired breeder female rats, or any of the huge males. Guinea pigs get a minimum of 2-3 times larger than either of these. A juvenile g-pig could be eaten by a BP, and an adult might even be killed (probably with severe injury to the snake as well - G-pig claws and feet suck), but unlikely that it would happen if proper precautions are taken to make sure everyone is kept securely.

Re: Ball Python + Guinea Pigs

I have about 5 girls that are between 3000g-4000g. I just recently, abotu two weeks ago started feeding them G. Pigs. They took right to it with no problems. Also putting on so much more weight. I wouldnt be surprised if I have a few 5000G girls by next season. Considering I get a small rat for $1, and large rats cost $2.50 for me, and Im getting G. Pigs for $2 a pop, I was happy to give it a shot. A rat for my big girls seems like a snack, They can easily eat 4-5 small rats.

Im gonna continue on the G. Pigs and see how it turns out.
