HOW do you tape the thermostat probe?

In a glass tank where do you tape the probe? Inside the tank above the UTH or under the tank above the UTH?

I hot glue mine right inside the tank on the glass right over the flexwatt.

either under the UTH, or in between the UTH and the bottom of the tank. placing probes inside the cage isn't considered to be as safe as the snake can move the probe off of the heat source.

In a situation like that I would just sandwich the probe between the UTH and the bottom of the tank (or tub).

I have never had a problem with a snake knocking a probe off . Glue it down properly and bury itunder substrate. Been doing it for years and haven't had one come off yet. I suppose there is a slim chance they might get it off.I like to know the temp of the glass. Only my RTB lives in a glass tank now all my bps are in a rack.just my opinion.

So, basically a good hobby glue or industrial glue would be a glue to use as well as hot glue if used right. I like all the tips, thanks guys!

I would stick with hot glue as it peels off, or can be melted off. Other glues will be more difficult to remove if needed.

That is true. Thinking about laying hot glue down, then pressing the probe tip in after to cools slightly so I don't mess up a thermostat probe.

I glued mine inside the tank, over the 'floor' glass, with the UTH under said glass.

Why? - Mainly because of what our friend luvmyballs said, I like the T-stat to regulate the temperature OVER the glass, which will be a more closer reading to what the animal will feel (of course, subtract a few degrees due to the substrate). Also as mentioned before in the thread, placing the probe between the UTH and the glass WILL create an air bubble which will affect the area heated and the temperature as well.

But I'm OCD, and I hot glued that probe to a certain way that it's not entirely easy to be pulled even by me without applying a few Newtons (sorry, physics overload).

The aluminum tape can act like a heat sink, because of this the probe can be subjected to temperatures that are different than the actual temperature of the UTH

absolutely agree. the aluminum tape creates a heat sink that causes inaccurate and variable readings in my experience. hot glue gun, electrical tape, and even clear duct tape has worked the best for me.

That issue is easily fixed.

Put it between the the flexwatt/UTH and put a thermometer probe on the glass. The throne yet probe is much smaller and more easy to glue to the glass, using hot glue. I def. have the best method is to put the glue on the surface first, then after a couple seconds to press the probe in it, when the probe goes into it it will start to cool off more quick as you will be moving the hot glue around and it will lose heat. I place my thermostat probe on my rack directly on the flexwatt with tape on the cord and hot glue on the very tip of the probe. Hope this helps!!!!
