In situations that it is required, I tape mine down by the cord without covering the probe and I will use a small spot of glue on the probe to hold it down. I covered the probe with aluminum tape once when I didn't know better and I found out quickly it was a bad idea! It was turning the thermostat on and off several times a minute.
