What female?

So I'm picking up an adult male Spider tomorrow. If I wanted to breed next year, what female would you recommend? I'm looking to buy after the holidays and will have around $750. I really like super pastel combos.

Firefly or pastel enchi would be money well spent. You could also get into some 3 genes like possibly a spinnerblast for around that amount of cash.

Fact.
If you want to breed next year and plan on spending around 750 after the hoildays your best bet is to pick a couple of older single gene females. Depending on weight they can go from 300-1000 easy. So I would think about what I wanted to make next season then start looking for females that would be ready to breed in a year or so. Anything in near 700 grams should be ready for next year.

Buying males to start off with is a backwards process, especially an adult male when you have no females. All you are going to do is feed him for a year while he loses value- were not talking a lot of value since it's a common variety single gene male. A medium rat every other week is going to set you back $50 in a year. I would pass on the 1.0 Spider at this point and pick up whatever single gene female that fits into your future projects, you and can afford. A 0.1 Pastel of any size would be a good pick-up to start with and probably equivalent to the cost of the male Spider. Hatchlings can be found for $125 and I just picked up a breeder sized 0.1 Pastel for $550 for this year.

If you like Super Pastel combo's then why are you picking up a 1.0 Spider? It doesn't fit into your plans. A 1.0 Pastel ($50) would fit into you plans, as would a 1.0 Bumblebee ($400-ish).

A 1.0 Bumblebee would fit into a 0.1 Pastel nicely and get you some Super Pastel morphs. You could get into that project for under $500 if you shopped around a bit.

If you are wanting to breed next year, you will need an adult. With $750 to spend I would be looking for a nice Pinstripe or Lesser female. Good luck, the spider gene is awesome in just about any combination!

Buy a bunch of normal females? I think thats always the best way to start. Breed your male to them and holdback females or trade for morphs you want. Its going to put you ahead of the game IMO even though spiders only go for 100-250 you will have allot to work with. With 750 you could pick up probably get 4-5 breeding/ close to breeding size animals if all goes well your looking at on the low end 16 animals to sell/keep back/trade
