    The Halloween Threshold

    Good afternoon, everyone,

So it's that time of year. Hallows Eve will soon be upon us, and I'm normally quite stoked about it! It's been my favorite holiday since I can remember, because I always loved dressing up and having fun for the day. People were less serious, more joking, more willing to 'let themselves go' a bit around the office or in the evenings.

To give you an idea, I'm 25 now. Goodness me time catches up quick. Wasn't I just 18 a little while ago?

I currently work in a more 'strict' office lately, but we still dress up. Well, about 1/4th of us do. And it's usually pretty fun. I work Reception and answer the phones, so I typically play around a bit with it for sure.

But this year I've just felt totally disinterested. I don't even have any costume ideas. And I think part of that is because I have no where to really go with my costumes anymore. I'm obviously too old to trick-o-treat. I can't take the neighborhood kids around anymore because I moved. I don't do 'bar' Halloween nights, because I just can't stand the 'sex appeal' that has come with dressing up nowadays. (Seen those women costumes at stores? Sexy nurse, sexy witch, sexy cowgirl. Dude, some of those skirts could be classified as a wide belt. You think that's going to cover my hiney when I sit down? Unlikely!)

I could stay home and hand out candy, but my other half wants to 'go out and do something'. Yet every Halloween event that's local to us seems to be either bar/drunk related, or heavily child related. There doesn't seem to be any generic 'Halloween Parties' anymore! I mean, I have no problem at all with a few drinks at Halloween, but I don't want to get drunk. I just want to chill with people and have fun.

Are Halloween parties a thing of the past? What is it you guys are doing for Halloween?

Maybe I'm just getting 'too old for this'? That would be a very sad day, but I feel like I'm definitely on that threshold. Trying to enjoy it, but having trouble finding a way to accomplish that.

My wife and I enjoy decorating the house and handing out candy to all the kids that come by. Usually we will have people over for drinks and dinner, but no plans have been made this year. Might be a quiet one!!

I'm going to be the bane of your holiday, sorry! Throwing a massive party at our house, dressing up in minimal clothing, and enjoying a plethora of adult beverages. I can't wait!

We decorate the yard and carve pumpkins with our daughter. Toasted pumpkin seeds are the best. The pumpkin patch is a blast. Of course all that is before Halloween. On actual Halloween we go trick or treating. Halloween and Christmas are my favorite holidays.

I feel the exact same way. I miss the good old days. I'm just a few years older than you, but I've been feeling that I've crossed that threshold as well. I don't drink, so the bar scene doesn't appeal to me, either. And I certainly don't want to go to a kiddo party since we don't have any kids of our own. Back when I was a teenager in Alaska we always had something going down on Halloween and it always ended with us partying at a local head/smoke shop. We'd sit around on their couches and smoke shisha out of their hookahs, jam out to music and they would have all sorts of contests with prizes. Always had a blast!

This year I intend on having a little fun handing out candy at least. We just bought our first house and we're in the middle of a small community so I know we will get lots of kiddos coming by. Perfect opportunity to dress in drag, give the neighborhood cavities and maybe educate some kiddos on our scaly friends. Should be fun.

Never liked the holiday myself. I enjoy all the scary movies that go along with the holiday though. Ive always been more into the partying aspect of it than the dressing up/trick or treating/candy. Im pretty sure i stopped dressing up when i was like 10 or 11, the whole idea of it just never really appealed to me. Getting together with friends and partying though is always fun.

After I kinda outgrew trick-or-treating, I enjoy sticking to our regular family tradition. Every Halloween we go to shakeys for the chicken, pizza, and mojos .

(I don't care if you think shakeys is gross, we don't go there for the top quality cuisine, we go there because it's tradition, and it's a fun time with the family. .)

We don't dress up or anything .
