Hog Island boa cross?
What does people on here think about Hog Island boa/Columbian Red tail mixes? I've been offered a pair for 125 as I hear they are proven breeders and have produce offspring that some look like hog island and others look like red tail. He also said with some crazy patterns and stripes and even some albino. Input?

Re: Hog Island boa cross?
Personally, I like Hog Isles to be as pure as possible. When you start crossing them, you lose the features that make them Hoggies, i.e.: smaller size, salmon coloration, and speckles. Most distinguished keepers prefer to keep the localities pure.

There are no boa constrictors in Columbia, South Carolina. Or Columbia, Missouri or ANY Columbia for that matter.

I happen to have a pair of colombian x hog island. They are about 18 months old right now. I obtained them from a USARK charity auction last year. I couldn't let them go for $20 so I bid $25 and got them! I own several boas but I am not a breeder. As pets they are awesome, but I'm not certain there is a market for breeding them. I will post pics later today if you would like.

We have a pure Hog and love her. If I wanted to breed her, I would get another Hog male.
Hogs were highly threatened from over collection. If they had gone extinct in the wild and we kept crossing them, eventually we would no longer have that pure animal anywhere. I am a firm believer in keeping my localities separate.

I like hog crosses. As long as you say that they are crosses when you breed them.
