Are Spiders really *this* weird? [aka OMG...I thought he was dead!]

So I wake up this morning and naturally, go check on the snakes.

Leon the Spider was mostly in his hide but his neck and head were sticking out of the hide stiff and upside down against the base of his climbing tree at about a 45 degree angle.

    I freaked.

I didn't even want to open his house and touch him...I *knew* he must've dropped dead suddenly for no apparent reason.

But then I opened his lid and reached in to get him and he seemed to startle awake.

I think he was sleeping like that.

I held him for a bit, put him back and gave him fresh water.

He rambled around a few minutes, drank some water and went back in his hide.

He's been unusually active since this heat wave stuff started and he's at the 1000 g. wall and is off and on about eating.

Can Spiders be so screwy that they'll sleep with their head/neck upside down??

[oh, how I love to start my day with a near heart attack]

Yeah. I have a honey bee that literally lays upside down. He looks like he's dead.... but no, he is just a spider/morph

Yup, that is normal. Spiders are dorks and every one we ever had did goofy stuff. We've even got a normal that does quirky stuff like that.

Re: Are Spiders really *this* weird? [aka OMG...I thought he was dead!]

    Oh, thank heaven.

Thanks everybody...if there's a 'next time' that I find him looking like mortified road kill, my heart won't stop beating for a few seconds when I see him.

I suppose I should have just assumed "He is a Spider"] *first*.

One time, I thought my Bee was either having seizures or dying because he was corkscrewing and flinging himself all over the place.

He had a little bit of aspen stuck on his lip and was going berserk trying to get rid of it.

["normally" he acts a bit berserk even if there's nothing bothering him]

    Spider genes
    ...such fun.

They are definitely different... My spider was a nut job, he was the only snake I've ever had that didn't give me any warning pose, he just turned and bit me every now and again for no reason.

Wait until the first time you find your breeding female lying completely upside down. I mean, completely and totally upside down! Talk about stopping your heart.

Better yet, wait until you have a young breeding male disappear from his female's tub, and about the time you notice he is gone, you notice the female looks really swollen and is acting all funny. And you think you just witnessed cannibalism first hand. Only to discover the brat boy curled up on the heat tape behind the females tub a short while later!

I think these guys live to give us heart seizures.

They probably sit in their tubs and whisper, "Hey guys, watch this, I'm gonna scare her half to death......."

Someone really needs to start a picture thread of Spiders (or any other morph) doing bizarre things like this. As soon as I can get Ajja to curl up in her cinnamon roll and go to sleep on my chest again, when I actually HAVE a camera, I'm snapping pics.

Well, after i went home replaced the plug in the kitchen (pyro dog) then prayed that he hadn't started a fire in the walls ( infrared heat detection) I heated up my bp's meals.. Got down stairs knowing they needed fresh water placed Aurora's rat on his screen... The little bugger was trying to grab it already....

New plan offer now then fill water so I grabbed it by the tail... Not thinking (with my fingers) tongs were right there DOH slid back the lid and wham with the blink of an eye he had it.... He proceeds to land in his water dish and stayed there till he had killed his rat again lol..

He never ceases to amaze me at his willingness to eat lol, Diablo on the other hand.. Practically makes me hold the rat in the center of his tank dripping on him for 5 minutes, all the while the stupid cat is poking her head in there as to say hey what's the deal here how come I don't get rats as a snack lol

I immediately thought of this post lol
