Does this happen to anyone else?

Iv had a Ball Python for about 2 months now and sometimes when i feed her she kills the mouse then leaves it and wont eat it I was just wondering if anyone else's Ball Python does this and why do they do this?

I have a big female who will take a F/T, wrap it up, then leave it and not eat it. She did this just two days ago and a few times before. I'm not sure why they don't eat it.

I have had this happen once or twice. But usually if I just leave the dead mouse or rat alone they will come back and eat it later. Not sure why it happens???? Maybe they get scared and leave the kill?

I've got a male that's done this to his rat 3 times now. Twice in a row just recently before refusing his last meal. Can't figure out what the issue is either. Thankfully I've still got 2 RTBs that dont mind a pre killed rat.

Doesnt sound too abnormal. I have one who liked to drag his into the water bowl so i started offering him the rat sopping wet and he was happier and stopped haha.

The other day i put the ft rat along te edge of the tub and closed it. My normal hit it and like pushed it with all her might up against the wall. Not throwing a coil over and constricting, just pushing haha.

So the answer is yes, they can be weirdos lol.

I have never witnessed this, I guess because my Ball Python is an african house snake at feeding time, swinging his head around when he misses and pursuing after mice. Then he acts like he's in a speed eating contest and inhales the dang thing. It makes me not want to wean him off live mice...

My pastel girl does this often. Most times if I leave her alone for most of an hour she will eat it. Once so far she killed it then seemed to forget about it, I left her alone and the next morning it was still in there, yuck.. If I open her tub she gets distracted and if I mess with her mouse to try and get her interested after she kills it she will refuse. Some are just weird.

Yes, Ozzy the Village Idiot Bee does this sometimes and it really annoys me.

Not only does he not get his supper that night, the poor mouse died in vain.

I don't know what's going on in his little deranged mind but he'll partially swallow it [usually just the head and shoulders] and then spit it out and leave it lay.

He's weird.

I guess squashed is squashed, no matter how it gets there.



Alice, the former escapee, once grabbed his mouse and flipped himself and the mouse upside down in his water bowl.
He and the mouse were totally under water but he didn't want to let go of it and I was worried he'd drown his silly self so I reached in and tugged it out of the bowl by the tail, with him still savagely gripping it.

That made him think the mouse was 'resurrecting' so he 'killed' it some more, just for good measure and finally ate the soggy, smashed, dripping mess.

My Boa did the same thing too, with a jumbo rat, one time.

That really freaked me out because I could see little bubbles coming out of his nostrils but he refused to let go of it.

I hauled that one out, too...which really gave him a grudge against it.

I have a few that have done that. It's irritating for me. Working with 65 breeders and babies and trying to feed in even small groups when I feed I look out for the kill. 99% of the time they eat it after. Though the next morning I'll smell it when they don't. And that I can't stand.
