I've watched it also. They were saying that the hybrid of the 2 (afrock and burm) could produce the giant gene in the offspring. In some species like ligers (tiger/lion hybrid) they are much larger than normal, so they assume it could happen in snakes. :banghead:

I watched Fatal Attractions last night. They really do play off snake keepers to be psychotic, don't they?

"Despite the warnings from his friends and family, Brian just could not live without his precious snakes."

While they said that, it was a video clip of some guy just staring into a tank, almost like he was stoned. As he fed it, the human in the clip looked almost... aroused by feeding his snake? Biting his lip, savouring the moment kind of crud.

    Really?

Because of these shows, co-workers of mine, who once thought it was neat that I had snakes, are now approaching me asking if I ever worry about my safety. I just reply: "I worry about my safety more when I'm driving than I do feeding my animals at home. You have a dog, don't you? Don't you ever worry it's going to maul a child to death like in those shows?"

    "That's different..." they say.

    Yeah... SO different

Yeah, the media really hurts our hobby, and I wish people knew that they do it for views, and that it's not the whole truth.

I used to watch Animal Planet all the time, but lately it's seem like their only concern is telling people about "killer animals". Let's see, they've talked about killer freshwater fish, bloodthirsty snakes and large felines that crave human flesh.
They also have a show called "My Cat From Hell".
    Okay...
From my understanding of this (correct me if I'm wrong), large snakes will only hurt people when threatened, or when they haven't been properly cared for (with the few rare exceptions that every species has).
Now I'm curious- How many large snake attacks are there, per year, compared to dogs or other "normal" pets?

Not only because I am an owner of sebae sebae pythons (the largest and strongest subspecies of african rock pythons) but, imagine we are those animals/snakes etc. The snake's propably mourning with thoughts (towards us humans) such as: IF ONLY YOU WERE IN MY SHOES!
...so let's give them a chance to be really truely happy with us humans. Them = snakes. They deserve more care, love and attention than some sort of thing! It's a live animal. Not a piece of plastic or a rock on the sidewalk. Respect and treat all snakes right, please do.

I asked Animal Planet how many African Rock pythons, or hybrids thereof, have been captured or killed in Florida's python challenge. There has been no response yet...

im just watching some of the snake-related vids on their youtube-channel http://www.youtube.com/user/AnimalPlanetTV (this is not a shoutout, nor is it advertising).

Anyway, i watch them, i spot mistakes, i spot neglect when it comes to research, i downrate them, and then i look at the comments and try to sort out some of the mess there.

Really, this is like foxnews. Animalplanet is compared to animal documentaries what foxnews is compared to news media. Their bias is: We, as humans, are species number 1 and everything else is inferior to us, and can only be either useful to us or threatening to us. Pathetic, really.

I mean, yeah.. During all the hurricanes and stuff in FL all the snake breeders lost all their babes and they all got loose and went a little crazy.. But is not their faults, ya n ow?? They're just trying to live like any other animal in this world..
