    Re: Good starting boa

Might I suggest a Hog Island Boa? or any of the Island Boa's. They stay smaller, in the 5-6 ft range and are extremely well tempered.. I absolutely love my Hog Islands..

My Vote is for the dumerils. I love mine and he's really docile and loves pink Floyd. He chills with me on the couch when I'm watching tv and loves to go for walks. Although I seem to do most of the walking.

We got a Hog Island on trade at our store and he is a total sweet heart. He is around 4 years old and was handled daily by his previous owner. Plus he is gorgeous! This is our first experience with one and we are impressed!

I second the Hog Island. I have 3 of them. They are extremely mellow. 2 of them are coming up on 4 years old are a male and female. She is 5 foot, he is 4 foot. The other is a 1 year old female. never been bitten by any of them. i wish i could say the same about my other charges.

Yeah, pics must not get true color. Looks salmon to me. Pretty though.

I have a good old normal "bcu", he appears to be a bcc x bci. I love him dearly. Tame, tolerates handling well, eats like champ. A male was suggested to me because they are "typically" smaller but there is no guarantee with that being that he's about 9 months old and already 495g and almost 36". With that said... Stay away from suris, guyanas, and peruvian females if you want to avoid those 7-10 footers.

With all of that said my opinion is... Get what you love! Research, browse photos of youngins and biggins, learn about their care, figure out who fits into your style and go for it. Good luck in your search
