One thing I did and noticed a HUGE difference in the voracity of my snake was to thaw the rat in a Tupperware container with a lid in my refrigerator during the day and then, about 15 mins before feeding, take that tupperware container and put it on the screen of my cage. My snake smells the rat and starts going crazy (by crazy I mean clearly sniffing the air more). In doing that, my snake will barely lets the rat get lowered into the feeding cage before he is strangling the hell out of it. Let him get a whiff....

Yea, I thaw them over night in the fridge then let in the room during the day. Right before feeding time, I put each one in an individual palstic baggie and clip the bag to the front of the tub so that it is open and right in the airholes. The smell really fills the tub and they are ready to go.

UPDATE Re: Failed first F/T attempt, quick question....

As usual, the advice I got up here was right on! 2nd try today, slightly smaller rat, warmed up better and presented a little more smoothly, plus snake now two days hungrier.....BAM! Down the hatch

Interestingly, she ate it backwards - that was a strange sight. Thanks, everyone!
