The real trick to the banana morph is that they are sterile! 50k for a snake you cant breed!

I wouldn't pay that much for them either, however the people who are paying those prices are doing this as a business. Ask any business person if they'll spend that kind of money on a new machine or a new truck or anything that has the potential to earn them some future profit and if it makes sense for them, they'll pay the money.

However, my personal opinion is that the price is still too high. There are so many out there now in private collections that I think the price will come down quicker then many might think and the people paying those kinds of prices now will be taking a lot longer to recoup their original investments then they may have planned on.

I guess we'll all just have to wait and see what happens. Some people will make money, some people won't and those of us who just like some cool new toys to play with will get them eventually.

Another reason the price is so high for males is because first generation bananas very rarely produce male offspring. Second generation male bananas generally produce high number of males and third is kind of unknown.

I don't know how true that is. I mean unknown to the general population sure, but a hand full of people surely have an idea. If the snake was proven genetic in 2002 as Kevin claims in his book then that means more than one season had gone into breeding to prove that. So I'm sure there are at least three or four generations of males. It's all about the money.

As I understand it, it's sex linked. With males costing a lot more than females because the produce mainly males. The females produce nearly all female, I believe it was three years before Kevin got a male that he produced. But like a lot of you said if I had the 50,000 and my wife would let me I would have one and buy a ton of normal females for him, the next year, all morph females.

Males cost 30k-50k for the males and 15k-20k for the females.
Theres a guy selling a proven Banana on Kingsnake for 45k.
Males are more expensive because you can breed it to 5 females and they can all produce a Banana.
While the female can produce Bananas one at a time.

I can not be sex-linked. In order to be sex-linked it has to be tied to either x or y chromosome. So if it's related to y it will only show in males never females. And if it's related to x it can only be females. So at first it was thought to be sex-linked but with producing males and females there is no possible way for it to be. And if I had the money to invest I sure would. But it bothers me that someone probably knows the answers but refuses to share to make more money. Am I mad at them wanting to make money? No. I'm mad that they can say we need to stick together as a community and help one another out especially with legislation, but they can keep secrets that would benefit the whole community. Sorry to get on my high horse but I had to get it out.
